What do you love about the city or area your home is in?
One of the things we love about Maple Grove is the extensive park and trail system. Maple Grove also has a great community center with many activities for the entire family. The downtown area is close by and has The Town Green where we have gone for outdoor concerts and movies, and lots and lots of shopping at Arbor Lakes outdoor mall. We love to eat at lots of the restaurants in Maple Grove; many offer outdoor eating spaces and a great atmosphere. Some of our favorite spots are Pittsburgh Blue, The Lookout Bar and Grill, P.F. Changs, Claddagh Irish Pub, and Chipotle.

We typically shop for groceries at Target or Cub Foods which are both only a couple miles away. We’re very excited about the new Whole Foods in the Arbor Lakes Shoppes area, and Trader Joes is also there for some special treats!
Key points about the property that I/we were drawn to?
When we bought the property we were initially drawn to the location. We love that we are within walking distance (less than a quarter mile from our front door!) of everything the Elm Creek Park Reserve has to offer. There is a sledding hill and cross country skiing in the winter, and a great playground, swimming pond, disc golf, and miles and miles of trails to bike, run, walk, and hike on in the summer.
Our location also puts us within 5 minutes of all the great things Maple Grove has going on downtown. One of things we like specifically about our property is the big backyard and large tree in the front yard which provides great shade in summer. We have wonderful neighbors and feel overall it is just a really nice neighborhood.
Many times our neighbors have helped us by shoveling or snow blowing our driveway in the winter or helping us trim our trees in the summer and fall. Everyone is really nice not only in the houses immediately surrounding, but the entire development. When we’re out on walks everyone is friendly and offers a polite wave or hello. On the inside of our home we really like all of the natural light in the home, the big open living areas, master bedroom, walk-in closet, and all of the extra storage space we have on the 4th level.
Why people should move to this area; why we were attracted?
The area is wonderful because of all the reasons above about the Park Reserve and Maple Grove, but it is also a great location for highway access. Highway 610 is literally right down the road, and we also have quick access to 169 and 94. In the morning I can get from my garage to my desk in downtown Minneapolis in less than 30 minutes. There are three Metro Transit park and rides close by too – Maple Grove Transit Station, Parkway Station, and Zachary Square.
What did you do for interests and hobbies near to the property?
We really get great use out of the close proximity to the Elm Creek Park Reserve – we love running, walking, hiking, and biking on the trails and swimming at the beach in the Park Reserve during the summer and cross country skiing there in the winter.
Average utility costs:
Our furnace and air conditioner were replaced in 2008. Xcel Energy is the electric provider, CenterPoint Energy is the gas provider, City of Maple Grove for water, Comcast is cable and internet, Allied Waste for recycling (paid by city) and many choices for waste. Our average utility price per month for electric, gas, water, and waste is around $185 a month.
We bought this house in a short sale but we believe the reason it was in short sale was that the previous homeowners made some great improvements they couldn’t really afford. They replaced the siding, roof, furnace, and AC all in 2008 just a year before we purchased the house. Since we’ve purchased house we’ve made some significant updates as well. We replaced the existing front walkway with a new cement patio and walkway in 2009 which we enjoy sitting on in the evenings and watching the sun set. We removed the worn out wood deck off of the dining room and replaced it with a beautiful new paver patio that we enjoy grilling and entertaining friends on.
The downstairs bathroom and carpet had been well used, so we replaced those in 2009 and 2010 to freshen up that level. We’ve also purchased all the following new in the last 2 years: dishwasher, microwave, fridge, water softener, clothes dryer, and even had the outdoor faucets replaced with frost-proof faucets.
